Section 2 – Background
Report Summary
Seeking an effective
treatment to obesity through lifestyle change interventions for adults who are
overweight or obese to prevent it from happening and by supporting the
commissioners to achieve that. There are several elements for reducing and
preventing obesity. To start with, following a healthy balanced diet and making
it an eating habit to monitor gaining calories and be alerted of what the body
lacks to stay healthy. Secondly, there has to be a family role in this contribution.
Parents should promote and enforce attractively family physical activities to
their children as a regular bases, as well as reducing any screen times such as
watching TV and playing video games. This eating disorder should be taken in a
serious matter because obesity can open gates to so many diseases, such as
diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular
disease, sleep apnea and some types of cancers. Some of these chronic
conditions and diseases can be fatal for humans. Therefore, finding solutions
for obesity is very significant and crucial since it is the most growing and
common eating disorder worldwide, as well as the UAE is no better than this
rising rate of obesity.

Questionnaire Results
The survey was
conducted among 13 undergraduate students in the class. The purpose of the
survey was to prevent the obesity in the college. The survey was conducted
by means of a questionnaire given to the students to complete. The
first part of the questionnaire dealt with, how much students are worried about
being overweight or obese and how it affects the community issues. The second
section was concerned with each student’s lifestyle. While the last section was
talking about how can HCT help to avoid the obesity. The most significant
items the charts illustrate are as follows. In the first section 46% of the
students are quite and moderately concerned about being overweight or
obese while 61% are extremely concerned about community issues. In the
second section, the students who are very happy about the amount of
exercise/physical activity was 46%; not surprisingly the
most common physical activity was playing football and swimming which
was by 5 students with an average of 4 to 14 hours per week. On the other hand,
46% of the students are quite concerned in playing video/ computer games, TV,
Internet. Moreover, most students agreed to add courses and to have a greater
role in helping students to prevent obesity in the HCT.
Section 4 – Discussion
As the result of the
survey questionnaire that was distributed to the male students in class, the
most interesting results were how students are willing to help the HCT in avoiding
obesity. As it showed, the students were agreed to add courses and to have a
greater role in combating students’ to prevent obesity in the college. Gladly,
the survey showed that half of the students are satisfied of the amount of
hours they spend in exercising and practicing other physical hobbies such as
football and swimming. As it is mentioned in the background section that
members should engage more in physical activities, which these students are
definitely fulfilling it. Since the questionnaire survey revealed that most of
the students are very much concerned of the affect of obesity as a community issue,
drastic change should take place. Therefore, students and faculty of the college
should collaborate with each other and take radical actions regarding the issue
of obesity to the community to prevent it.
To sum up, if any
conclusions may be drawn from the data, they are, perhaps, that students are
concerned about obesity and want to help in avoiding it. In addition, they are encouraging
to have sport courses and awareness lectures about obesity, which these
students are ready to take place and participate in.
